Now to start with I am a Muslim, a fellow on yahoo answer asked me to read the part of the book the prophet of doom related to women in Islam and I did.

I found some of the things the guy is saying in his book as misleading and plain wrong and I would like to know your opinion.

I will start with the last one he used and I will go up the list. I will only deal with what he is saying from the Quran because I have read the Quran many times and familiar with it.

Here is the first one according

24:6 “And for those who launch a charge against their wives, accusing them, but have no witnesses or evidence, except themselves; let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies, (swearing four times) by Allah that he is the one speaking the truth.”

The book had it with no other comments related to it so you have all what is in the book related to it

Now as I see it the verse by itself is showing that Islam looks at women as a lower grade than men.
Here is my point, the verse with 3 verses directly after it

[6] And for those who accuse their wives, but have no
witnesses except themselves, let the testimony of one
of them be four testimonies (i.e. testifies four
times) by Allâh that he is one of those who speak the
truth.
[7] And the fifth (testimony) (should be) the invoking
of the Curse of Allâh on him if he be of those who
tell a lie (against her).
[8] But it shall avert the punishment (of stoning to
death) from her, if she bears witness four times by
Allâh, that he (her husband) is telling a lie.
[9] And the fifth (testimony) should be that the Wrath
of Allâh be upon her if he (her husband) speaks the
truth.

Now my question is

1-Do you think that the author mislead his readers by just listing the verse alone?
2- if the answer is yes why would you think he needs to do that if Islam is that evil?. I mean why does he has to mislead people
You can answer intelligently or you can bash it is up to you. But if you are going to bash please remember to answer the questions in the process.

Winn does not speak Arabic, so how can he possibly know what the oldest Islamic resources say? This is especially the case since in my debate with him, Winn claimed that no more than 500 people can today understand the original Quran. I asked him, “If this is so, how then did you translate the Quran?” Translation is a step beyond understanding, as you know, hopefully, so when he denied he translated the Quran, it exposes how he lies without any shame.

First, Winn used the word ‘queer’ to explain something in the Quran, but that word is not found in any available English translation of the Quran. Therefore, since Winn does not speak Arabic, where did he get this word from? Who gave it to him, if he got it from someone else? Is it one of the only 500 people who can understand the Quran today?

Second, Winn is attacking a book that no one can understand, except 500 people according to him. Thus, why is he so hostile towards Muhammad and his ‘original’ Quran, if the book we have today is not the book Muhammad came with? Winn’s enmity should then be directed at what Muslims today think is the Quran; he should attack modern-day Muslims and modern-day Quran, not Muhammad or his original Quran.

Winn does not make any sense. How can you seriously think that this man, who speaks NOT a word of Arabic, has any knowledge on Islam and its original resources when all of Islam’s original resources are found in Arabic? He may wish to claim to be an expert on what he found written in English about Islam, but not an expert on the Islamic original resources which he cannot possibly read! This is absurd.

Recently in Cinemax Mumbai, a Press Conference was held by Saregama India Ltd. for their film The Japanese Wife. Almost the entire team of The Japanese Wife was present at the conference including ace filmmaker Aparna Sen, Actor Rahul Bose, Veteran Moushumi Chatterjee, Apurv Nagpal (MD of Saregama). The promos were showcased to the media which was present in large number.
The promos exhibited yet another finest work of Aparna Sen as she is one of the connoisseurs’ of artistic cinema in India. The Japanese Wife strikes a chord and is sure to leave an indelible mark on the audience as it will portray a real sensitive love story.
When asked Aparna as to what prompted her to make a film on Kunal Basus book The Japanese Wife, she answers I got inspired with the fact that how 2 peoples 17 years marriage has more integrity even though theyve never met than any other marriage Ive ever seen in real. And I immediately knew that this was the film I had to make. I wanted to create a film which is minimalistic but poetic so I had to face a lot of challenges while making the movie.
Apurv Nagpal expressed that he went berserk reading the novel and is grateful to Aparna for turning this film as beautiful as the book. He said I love Moushumi Chatterjees role in the film for the great vivacity she shows in her character.
The Press conference was followed by the album launch of The Japanese Wife where all the songs are handpicked by Aparna Sen. Followed by the launch; the Media was gifted with a TJW notebook designed by Mr. Ajay Shah.
Rahul Bose who had worked with Aparna Sen in fantastic films like Mr. & Mrs. Iyer and 15th Park Avenue couldnt stop appreciating Aparna for her brilliant talent of film making. If the audience had gone for Mr & Mrs. Iyer because it was a romantic love story then Im sure double the amount of people will go for The Japanese Wife, alleged Bose.
Veteran Moushumi Chatterjee who is making a comeback in films after 5 years added, Ive been a lazy person and when I was approached for this film, I knew I was getting a fantastic opportunity to make a comeback. I seriously recommend everyone to see this film because its full of love yet painful and so please watch the movie and enjoy the pain.
The Japanese Wife is a beautiful love story of an Indian man who writes to a Japanese woman. The pen-friends fall in love and exchange their vows over letters, then live as man and wife without ever setting eyes on each other their intimacy of words tested finally by lifes miraculous upheavals.

Professor Clive Hamilton public lecture and book launch at The Australian National University on 29 March, 2010. The lecture is introduced by Professor Will Steffen, Executive Director of the ANU Climate Change Institute.

Clive Hamiltons book, Requiem for a Species is about why we have ignored the climate change warnings. It is a book about the frailties of the human species: our strange obsessions, our hubris, and our penchant for avoiding the facts. It is the story of a battle within us between the forces that should have caused us to protect the earth, like our capacity to reason and our connection to nature, and our greed, materialism and alienation from nature, which, in the end, have won out.

And it is about the 21st century consequences of these failures, and what we can do now.

Clive Hamilton is Charles Sturt Professor of Public Ethics at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics. He is based at The Australian National University. For 14 years until early 2008 he was the Executive Director of The Australia Institute, Australias leading progressive think tank, which he founded in 1993. He has held a number of visiting academic positions, including at the University of Cambridge and Yale University and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. He is the author of a number of best-selling books, including Growth Fetish, Affluenza (with Richard Denniss), Silencing Dissent (with Sarah Maddison) and The Freedom Paradox.
