how can i convince my parents to allow me to attend a book launch party?
- my parents aren’t allowing me to go because they think I WILL GET LOST because it will be TOO CROWDED.
- it is the Harry Potter 7 book launch party at the VanDusen Botanical Garden, which is huge.
- i’m going to be in GRADE NINE by september.
- i’m going to be going with my one of my friends AND her mother.
- her mother will be driving us there, and accompaning us
- my parents trust her parents.
- it will be from 11 p.m. to 12:15 a.m.
- going to this book launch party IS MY BIRTHDAY PRESENT, and i don’t think it’s fair if i’m not allowed to receive my own gift.
Your parents should let you go … you’ll be with friend, and have a good chaperone, and since it’s on your birthday, and you are getting the book as your ‘gift’ I think it would be a ‘truly wonderful memory’ … and you may SHOW this to your parents if you want to.

Have her mother talk to your parents and ask permission to bring you.

If your parents trust her parents and her mom will be with you guys the whole time, then I don’t see what the problem is. Talk to them and tell them they can call your friend’s mom to talk to her about it and make sure you’ll be safe. Also mention how much it would mean to you as a birthday present.

Ask your mother to come along, too…then she will have no reason to worry

you need to show them you’re a responsible young adult if you want them to stop treating you like a big baby. do your chores, get good grades, and maybe have your parents talk to you friend’s mom so they feel more self assured.

I’m the mom of four now ‘grown’ kids, and have two (so far) grandkids … and you should let your offspring do this … since she’s a reader, she’ll be ‘okay’ and her friend’s mom will be there, too, so PLEASE let her go! I would take her if I could … but I live in Seattle. I want to go to a Harry Potter party, too, but I’m ‘too old’ and all my kids have ‘preordered’ the book and it’s being mailed to them. DARN!

I know you don’t want to hear this but your parents only worry about you because they love you. No it is not always fair, but I promise you in a month you will not even care about this anymore. The only thing you can do is possibly talk to your parents in a calm mature fashion and explain to them that you will be supervised. Maybe even ask them to join you, maybe that would make them feel better about it. If you are still not allowed to go just remember it can always be worse no matter how sucky it seems right now.
