it depends on who u are to the author…if u r just a mere fan get his book and ask for signature
If u r a russian and he is also one get a bottle of Vodka
If she s a lady close to you get her a bunch of mixed variety flowers..

an engraved book mark from Tiffany’s. The engraving can be his/her name or initials or a more personal wording

If there is a certain special object in his story (like a photo frame, stopwatch, etc,) find one to give to him/her. Something that would tie into their story well, with good meaning.
