100% scam.

There is no job. There is only a scammer trying to steal your hard-earned money.

The next email will be from another of the scammer’s fake names and free email addresses pretending to be the "secretary/assistant/accountant" and will demand you cash a large fake check sent on a stolen UPS/FedEx billing account number and send most of the "money" via Western Union or moneygram back to the scammer posing as the "clothing store manager" while you "keep" a small portion. When your bank realizes the check is fake and it bounces, you get the real life job of paying back the bank for the bounced check fees and all the bank’s money you sent to an overseas criminal.

Western Union and moneygram do not verify anything on the form the sender fills out, not the name, not the street address, not the country, not even the gender of the receiver, it all means absolutely nothing. The clerk will not bother to check ID and will simply hand off your cash to whomever walks in the door with the MTCN# and question/answer. Neither company will tell the sender who picked up the cash, at what store location or even in what country your money walked out the door. Neither company has any kind of refund policy, money sent is money gone forever.

Now that you have responded to a scammer, you are on his ‘potential sucker’ list, he will try again to separate you from your cash. He will send you more emails from his other free email addresses using another of his fake names with all kinds of stories of great jobs, lottery winnings, millions in the bank and desperate, lonely, sexy singles. He will sell your email address to all his scamming buddies who will also send you dozens of fake emails all with the exact same goal, you sending them your cash via Western Union or moneygram.

Whenever suspicious or just plain curious, google everything, website addresses, names used, companies mentioned, phone numbers given, all email addresses, even sentences from the emails as you might be unpleasantly surprised at what you find already posted online. You can also post/ask here and every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find before taking a chance and losing money to a scammer.

6 "Rules to follow" to avoid most fake jobs:
1) Job asks you to use your personal bank account and/or open a new one.
2) Job asks you to print/mail/cash a check or money order.
3) Job asks you to use Western Union or moneygram in any capacity.
4) Job asks you to accept packages and re-ship them on to anyone.
5) Job asks you to pay visas, travel fees via Western Union or moneygram.
6) Job asks you to sign up for a credit reporting or identity verification site.

If you google "fake check cashing job", "fraud Western Union scam", "money mule moneygram scam" or something similar you will find hundreds of posts from victims and near-victims of this type of scam.

Model SCAM?? PLEASE HELP!!?

February 15, 2011 - 6:13 pm 7 Comments

Hi guys!
I have been offered to take part in a photo shoot in London, it’s about a soon to be launched clothing line. The model agency is called Daith Casting and they would pay me 30,000 Pounds and pay or my flight and hotel. It is not unlikely that I was contacted since I had done some acting and stuff in L.A. just recently and my head shot and resume can be found in several model and acting agencies’ databases.
Anyhow, they want wo wire an uprfront payment of 50% into my account, but in order to do that, I would have to pay a certain amount of money. Here’s a part from the e-mail the head scout wrote me:

"Below are the contact details of the bank.

NAME: CITY BANK OF LONDON .

ACCOUNTANT IN CHARGE OF TRANSFER: MISS MARILYN FISH.

EMAIL: marilyn_fish@accountant.com

You are to contact them as soon as you can and confirm your full bank details. You must note that all Cost of Transfer and insurance charges have been paid by the Client and all you would have to pay to the Bank is ACCOUNT ACTIVATION CHARGES of 420 Pounds which will activate the account to be able to effect international transfers.

That was not paid because we were made to understand the recipient has to personally settle that as he/she is the only person liable to withdraw the funds when transferred so the account has to be activated by him/her since the activation pin will be sent to you.

So that is the only charge you will be paying. I will be sending you a copy of the Deposit Certificate tomorrow.

The extra 1,500 Pounds that is added to the upfront payment is for your flight ticket since you are required to book it yourself at any airline of yourself. "

What do you think? Is it a scam? I mean, I have a contract and everyting.
Oh I don’t know. PLEASE HELP ME!!

I am very grateful about EVERY answer!!!

Best regards, Kelly
Thank you so much for all your answers! I do apprecciate that u took your time to hepl me!

I guess you are right, huh?

I mean, yeah, I talked to that guy on the phone and there is and "Employment Agreement", a contract that says that I will be employed for a certain period of time and stuff.
I think I wall call the Citibank (maybe he made a spelling mistake? ) and ask whether this could be true.

I am very thankful for every answer so far and I am even more thankful for every new answer!

Kelly

i think it is a scam

why do you have to wire them money in order to recieve money? it doesn’t make much sense to me. And i don’t even think that is a real bank. I believe it is a scam maybe look into it a bit more befor you do anything.

What Do You Think About This: Using the Bible as a Social Networking Tool?

January 31, 2011 - 11:51 pm 2 Comments

Today, Rethink Books is launching its SocialBooks software which allows publishers to turn their books into iPad apps.

The first book to become socialized in this manner will be the Bible. In this way, the Bible could be illustrated with depictions from paintings and other art, as well as video clips from Biblical movies.

Of course, people could also upload clips from Monty Python’s Life of Brian, but that’s what makes social media so much fun. Even personal photos or videos could add a fascinating layer of contemporary commentary and personal interpretations to the good book.

not wrong but I prefer holding books in my hands..

Does this sound legit or like a scam?

October 28, 2010 - 10:15 am 6 Comments

Here’s the details, I saw a post on Craigs list, and I sent an e-mail to do it, it was for a modeling / acting thing.. Here’s the response I got (Which sounds a little off.. )

The shot will be held as soon as we both agree on when it should be held and the pictures will be used for the promotion sales. The Store will be responsible for the provision for your clothings,make-up and hairstyle that will be use for the shoot.

The location of the shoot, will be somewhere close to where you are located to avoid any traveling inconveniences on your part.As soon as we both agree, the photographer will get in touch with you to agree on the location, date and time of the shoots and he will becoming over to meet you up so that the shooting can be done in good time.

Let me know if you’re ok with $400(your salary) for a day for your service and fund will be sent to you immediately on confirmation of your payment information as clearly outlined below this e-mail. After payment has been received, the photo shoot will be taken and sent to the store.

There will be a pre-arranged photographer, hairstylist and a make up artist that will becoming over to you for the shoots.

They will be contacting you for proper arrangement of time and location after payments has been made.

Guess the arrangement is understood. In order for payment to be made to you, provide me with the following details,

Name in full………
Residential address in full………..
City………..
State………..
Zip-code…………
Phone number…(cell and home)…..
Age………….
Charges…$400 (a day)
Statistics for Attires….
Statistics for shoes…..
Any previous Modeling Experience…..

Thanks

________

Ok so I thought this was legit.. and as I was responding, well I hit send, and went to inbox and had another message. Now after reading this, I got thrown off a bit.. But had already sent my information…

______

Good News!!! I email to inform you that a Sponsor company has finally emerged for this project, The sponsor has great passion for fashion and they will be Launching their own model school soonest and that is why they have decided to sponsor this project.

I am putting to your notice that the payment has been made to cover both your charges(SALARY) for shooting and that of the supervisor and her crew coming over the left over of the funds will be used in the booking of the studio and also cost of transportation for the supervisor and his crew to get down to your location for shooting.

we have decided to USE THIS MEANS BECAUSE the supervisor travels around a lot for shoots and its hard for him to receive payment cause of his unstable location and that was why we have decided to add his fee to your payment so that you can send for him as soon as you have your own payment (PLEASE TAKE NOTE).

Pls We need you to confirm that You are still interested in the offer by replying to this email so we can proceed by sending you payment.

Thanks

_____

Now unless it’s normal, Grammar was off, punctuation was off.. I just don’t know what to expect, and why would they pay me first? $400 a day for someone with little experience? Well anyway.. If I get a check, I know to cash it out at walmart, not in the bank so he doesn’t get my information.. But if they end up calling, what are some things I should look out for? Does this seem legit?

It’s a Nigeria scam, don’t touch it! http://www.newmodels.com/Nigeria.html
These scams are all over Craigslist, myspace, facebook, modelmayhem, onemodelplace, etc.

1 – NO company will ever hire a model online. If you did not go for an in-person go-see and fitting, the job does not exist. Remember that one simple rule to avoid most scams. Even top models like Kate Moss still go to castings. If you’ve never worked for this company before, there is no way to know until they’ve actualy seen you that you have not lied about your height, age, measurements, etc. They have no idea if your skin is broken out this week from a picture. No way to know if you gained 5lbs in the past week because you’ve been out every night. No way to know your picture hasn’t been completley photoshopped and looks nothing like you. No way to know you would fit into the sample clothing
2 – Models NEVER ar paid in advance of any shoot or there is no guarantee they would ever show up. You are always paid 30-60 days AFTER the shoot
3 – NO shoot for a clothing company would ever advertise on Craigslist
4 – the date, time and location of the shoot are always decided in advance, not around the model’s schedule
5 – NO company would send a model money to pay for studio booking, transportation or anything else.
6 – NO real company is going to use poor grammar

DO NOT give them your home address or phone number for any reason. If you have, when the check arrives, save the original envelope and contact your closest FBI Field Office and turn it over to them. They are the agency responsible for investigating internet crimes. Keep copies of every email you’ve received and do not respond any further. If they call, DO NOT speak to them, hang up the phone or don’t answer calls from unknown or foreign phone numbers. Print out the emails with full headers so they can hopefully track these criminals, and if the IP address shows they are from a foreign country (usually Nigeria or Russia) they will work with local law enforcement in those countries to try and track these scammers. http://www.fbi.gov/contact/fo/fo.htm

Do you like the beginning of my story? Feedback TRULY appreciated!!?

October 25, 2010 - 9:51 pm 4 Comments

Note: This is VERY girly. If you’re a guy you probably won’t like it.

Chapter 1: Every Story Has a Beginning
Life can be hard
Or life can be great,
It depends on your choices
And what lies in your fate.
You can be loyal and caring,
Live life with laughter and love,
And do just what is wanted
From the heavens looking out from above.
Or you could be different,
Rebellious, regretful, and sly,
Hurting yourself and others
When you cheat and lie.
It’s all up to you
And the decisions you make,
What you do with your time
And the friends that you take.
So now I hope as you go
Through life knowing this,
You make the right choices
And don’t regret what you miss.

Bella Beckham stopped writing. She stared at the last line she had written and then shook her head, pen hovering over the small book with the blue velvet cover. Then, with a sudden gesture, she lifted her head and threw her pen and book at the big bay window, where they bounced off harmlessly and landed on the upholstered window seat in her English classroom. When she was fifteen she knew exactly what she wanted. She had wanted the same at twelve. Everything. But now she had made up her mind how to go about attaining it. She was going to trade on her looks, her best and perhaps only talent as far as she was concerned. She thought she could act, or at least learn how. It had to be easier than algebra, or English lit, or any of those other dreary classes in school. But one way or another, she was going to be a star. And she was going to make it on her own.

Bella rightfully believed that hope would always triumph over experience- imaginations were stronger than knowledge- myths were more powerful than history- dreams were more powerful than facts- happiness would always triumph over sorrow- laughter was the cure for heartache- and love was stronger than death. She was the light, and the goddess, and the moon. The space and the dream, the mystery and the danger. But everything else all together too, including Hollywood, and the girl next door that every guy wants to marry. Yet there was something indefinably shy about her, an almost old-fashioned inferiority complex. A wall-flower steak in the beautiful goddess. She was the kind of girl who laughed loudly, smoked incessantly, and appeared to be hell-bent on destroying herself, but stylishly. Truthfully, she should have tragically overdosed by then. Or else succumbed to some harrowing disease brought on by vodka tonics and Tic Tacs. She was Marilyn Monroe minus the adoring fans. Britney Spears minus the pesky paparazzi.

Bella was many things: curvy, gorgeous, wealthy, well-educated, with a passion for literature and the poems of Emily Dickenson. Even so, her life just wasn’t supposed to be so…stagnant. Everyone who was anyone had certainly moved on from the impromptu-striptease-on-the-dance-floor stage — now either walking red carpets while launching their own clothing line or making their directorial debuts at Sundance or overseeing billion-dollar cosmetics companies. The only thing Bella seemed to have accomplished was the ability to conjugate French verbs and look tan and gorgeous in her white racer-back Polo Ralph Lauren bathing suit. The whole situation was terribly unfair, because Bella was made for paparazzi stalkers and tabloid headline notoriety. She constantly dreamed of velvet ropes and open bars, aviator sunglasses and seaweed scrubs, sexy photo shoots, peacock-feathered stilettos, Hello-Kitty messenger bags, crocodile handbags, and gold-leaf invitations to red carpet events. The kind of exclusive fete frequented by magazine editors, pop superstars, models, photographers, stylists, socialites, the several primary celebrities cajoled into showing up (Miley Cyrus, Tyra Banks, Lindsay Lohan) as well as the legions of assorted fashionable hangers-on — aggressive party crashers who more often than not spent their days manning the M.A.C counters at Bloomingdale’s — star-struck kids with a talent for putting together the perfect theatrical outfit. But instead of ascending up the New York circles via legacy or meritocracy, she spent her days in dreary school classrooms and her nights in the unsavory confines of certain nightclub bathrooms. In the back of her mind, she always thought that by the time she reached fifteen, she’d have something: either a rich and successful boyfriend who kept her in couture or else a fabulous and fulfilling Hollywood career that garnered the respect and admiration of her peers. How utterly humiliating to realize that she still hadn’t made a handsome match while saving the world with a cure for cancer, or at least hosting a benefit for the cause. Everyone in Hollywood had a cause, either because they were truly sympathetic or because it made them look like they were.
Life as a dreamy teenager was becoming unbearably empty and meaningless, not to mention mind-bogglingly boring. Bella wanted to push boundaries, to have new-fangled experiences, to stop being the proverbial literature-devouring, well-mannered, preppy, and worst of all predictable- good girl. Unfortunatly, she was the ultimate Good Girl. She scrubbed her makeup off every night, despite her high exhaustion levels. She mailed out her Christmas cards every Thanksgiving weekend without fail, and thank-you notes were written and posted within three days of receipt of any gift. But the problem with being a Good Girl was this—Bella was terrible at conflict. When it came to the fight-or-flight phenomenon, her fight was nonexistent, as wimpy as Popeye pre-spinach. Luckily, Bella was a world-class sprinter when it came to anything that even remotely resembled conflict.
Gahh i have edited the shit out of this…what else do u think needs editing?

LOVE the poem at the beginning… I can’t really tell if this is good or not, I need more to go on. Your writing style is great, it could use a bit of editing, but that’s just my personal taste. The content could go either way… This could be just another "girl wants to be famous, have a flashy lifestyle, blah blah blah," but then again, it could go another way entirely and be a truly interesting read. Again, I’d have to see more. Also, the name Bella… Unfortunately, i think once a book/series has hit the fame Twilight has, you can’t really use the name of the main character anymore if you want your story to stand out and be original. Once you hear Bella, you automatically think "Twilight", Harry evokes "Harry Potter", Alice, "The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland" etc… Just my opinion though.

IRVINE, Calif. November 13, 2008 – Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. announced today that World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, the second expansion for the world’s leading massively multiplayer online role-playing game, is now on sale in North America, Europe, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Russia. The expansion will be in stores beginning November 14 in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, and available on November 18 in Korea and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. Details regarding the launch of Wrath of the Lich King in mainland China will be announced at a later date.

“Wrath of the Lich King contains some of the best content we’ve created for World of Warcraft,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We appreciate the valuable feedback from our beta testers and the continued enthusiasm and dedication of players around the world, and we look forward to seeing them in Northrend.”

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King sends players to the cold, forbidding continent of Northrend, where the malevolent Lich King Arthas Menethil seeks to bring an end to life on Azeroth. Players will fight Arthas’ undead army and unravel the mysteries of Northrend as they quest through new zones and dungeons, acquire potent new skills and abilities, engage in epic open-world player-vs.-player warfare with siege vehicles and destructible buildings, wield the runic power of World of Warcraft’s first Hero class — the death knight — and much more.

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King is now available at retailers on DVD-ROM for Windows XP/Vista and Macintosh at a suggested retail price of $39.99. A special Collector’s Edition of the expansion is also available at a suggested retail price of $69.99.
