Thank You.
Austin Carty was a cast member on Survivor: Panama Exile Island in 2006, but he isnt content or comfortable being known solely as that guy who appeared on the reality TV show, ate bugs, and built barely functional lean-tos. What he is content and comfortable with, hes discovered, is his faith and his belief in something bigger than himself. And its this faith and this belief thats led him to endure greater trials than a couple of months of outdoor living, or even surviving a monsoon dressed in a T-shirt. Today, Carty travels across the world speaking to youth about being a Christian in a world that requires a unique set of survival skills none of which, luckily, involve using a flint. Hes always wanted to write, though, and that desire has led, most recently, to this collection of candid essays. In them, Carty explores his own experiences navigating religious fervor, spiritual confusion, academic dishonesty, superficial and genuine friendships, temporary employment and vocational purpose, and romantic entanglements. His frank disclosure, coupled with his gentle, self-deprecating humor, is disarming and endearing, and perhaps most importantly accessible and relatable. Whether his readers identify as religious or secular, most will connect with Cartys writing, and find his self-awareness and introspection both refreshing and inspiring.

I plan on visiting Orlando to see one of the final shuttle launches – 29th July. Since I have to book flights I need to know how long should I plan to stay in case of delays.
Cheers, Jay
Agree with the post above…in July, the weather is always a factor. We tried to see the launch last July, and it was postponed at the nine minute mark for three consecutive days, then pushed back another two days before it finally launched (we watched it from the comfort of our living room on tv. Unfortunately that was 600 miles away). It is important to try and not revolve your vacation around a shuttle launch, but if you are lucky enough to see one up close, it is an awesome experience that you will always remember.

Suppose you wanted to launch a campaign asking people to consider donating used computers to help people who live in poverty who do not have computers.
Can anybody recommend any books that talk about how to launch such a campaign? I thought about books on proposals, but I don’t think that would be it.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Interesting idea, but it would be very difficultt to reach everyone wih a computer asking them to donate. Maybe you could focus on a smaller target – say corporations – so you can more efficiently reach a more concentrated group of potential donors with a much higher giving potential. (if you convince one company to donate their used computers, it would generate multiple donations, rather than spending the same time cultivating an individual donor who would likely only give 1). Next, you compose your marketing piece, a letter that describes your mission, how you intend to accomplish it, and how the company can help. Invite the company to contact you for more information, or a web site where they can find out more about your organization. Follow up in a week or two with a phone call or a personal visit to see if they are interested in donating, have any questions, or are not interested. Do this many times, and you will eventually start seeing results.
You can also plan a ‘computer drive’ in your community – ask your local newspapers to run an ad promoting the event, get a school or church to host the event, and post up signs and flyers in high visibility areas to drum up attendance.
You may also want to search the internet to see if there are any established charities or nonprofits in your area that serve a similar purpose. If there are, you may consider partnering with them, rather than competing against them to accomplish your shared mission, and you can take advantage of their in-place programs to attract donations.
There are any number of books that go into much greater detail on how to plan and implement a donor solicitation campaign. You can search "donor solicitation + computers" and see what ideas you get from freely available sources. Search the same at amazon.com for related book titles.
