no, It’s very hard to make a profitable book.
Being a purchaser owning a bookstore, launching an online store myself its very perplexing, i even tried to contact publishers directly, they would not contact us directly,asked to deal with the distributors who just raised a percent or so when i told them i would be shipping books, i am in the process of starting a online store, i want to offer books on cash on delivery all courier companies charge a fee for each cash on delivery which is quite high, and also shipping charges.

You will not get free international shipping rates.
Usually what happens is that you will agree with a distributor that for each volume of merchandise you ship over a certain quantity will be at a set rate . You divide that set rate into the volume shipped and include that in your mark-up on cost..
Nothing is free in this world the real truth is that the book companies on-line sell so many books they get a very very cheap rate that they can hide in the markups on the books they sell. Customers are still really paying freight but it is hidden in the cost of the book they purchased.
Also they can use what is called "backloads" where a truck comes to city with a full load but has nothing to take back to the city it came from so they will take a load much cheaper than the normal rate because otherwise they would go back empty.
