Do you think Apple’s iPad will kill Amazon’s Kindle and why?

February 16, 2010 - 5:35 pm 10 Comments

Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled a new touchscreen tablet computer on Wednesday dubbed the "iPad," seeking to carve out a niche between the laptop and the smartphone.

Apple said it would start shipping the iPad, which features a virtual touchscreen keyboard, within 60 days, making them available worldwide in late March. Jobs, who appeared thin but healthy, said Apple was launching an online "iBookstore" for the iPad and touted its abilities as an electronic reader of books, newspapers and magazines.

Some technology analysts expect the iPad to pose a challenge to other e-readers on the market and Jobs made a reference to the e-reader market leader, Amazon’s Kindle.

Do you think Apple’s iPad will kill Amazon’s Kindle and why?

No. The ability to read ebooks on an lcd screen has been around before the Kindle or any other e-reader was available so why should the iPad change anything??

I have an Ipod Touch and I have an Amazon Kindle. Reading on an e-ink screen is much easier on the eyes and that makes a big difference if you like to read a lot. I get a headache reading on an LCD screen and I get tired a lot faster.

Also the Ipad will cost twice as much, and as far as functionality goes, a netbook is half the price and twice as functional. I also own a netbook, and that hasn’t replaced my Kindle.

However, if you must have a tablet to keep up with the Joneses, I would wait until the HP slate has to offer, that will run Windows 7 which is far more functional than the ipod/ipad platform and you would be able to read Kindle books on it. Amazon probably has the best prices and best selection of ebooks right now.

Torrent Game Installation?

February 14, 2010 - 3:23 pm 2 Comments

i downloaded call of duty as a torrent. now i am trying to install it. the instructions say this:

1. get winrar
2. open the file with the stack of books on it or the the file thats says .r00 or .r01
3. theres a type of file called iso file
4. drag and drop on to the folder
5. this will extract everything and make the files into a iso file
6. get daemon tools
7. launch daemon tools and itll be shown at the bottom right hand cornor ( windows) a red circle with a lightnighing going thru it
8. right click on it and itll say mount
9. now mount the iso file (this will create a virtual disk drive for ur computer neat right?)
10. then go to my computer and double click on it
11. this will launch the game installer
12. install the game
13. open the nfo in the folder with notepad and scroll down it’ll say the cd key that the game will ask u during the install
14. and next blah blah agree installl blah shortcut blah finish
15. the program will ask if u want to play. say no and exit
16. right click on the virtual disk and go to explore
17. and go to the razor 1911 folder
18. using the my computer go to where the game was installed mine is "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 – Modern Warfare" default
19. and drag and and drop the file in razor 1911 into the cod4 install folder and when it does this say yes when it ask if ur sure if u want to put the exe in razor into cod4. this will put a cracked exe allowing u to play without a cd in the phyiscal drive (for some reason it wont play in virtual drive -_-)
20. dance and play and enjoy

im a little confused about steps 3-5. what exactly am i supposed to drag and how do i extract all of it as iso?
i extracted it once before and i could not find an iso file. it gave me a ton of files, not just 1 like you said. what do i do then?

i know how to mount but what is a crack? does it mean i can play the game without a cd?
in not sure which file to mount. would it be the one i used winrar on to extract the rest of the files from? or would it be an installer or something else?
also, what is the nfo folder?

No need for these steps. If the files go from .r00 to .r00132… what ever number it ends at. Simply click the first one and use Winrar to extract it. It will extract all of them in order until you have 1 file left.

If it is not .r00 files and there is just 1 large sized winrar file. extract it.

Either way you should end up with an ISO file.

Once you have this you will need what is called a mounting program. They list daemon tools as it is the most known and most common. But there are others if you do not want this one. try searching for mounting tools.

Once you have the file mounted, you may need a CD crack. Try www.gameburnworld.com. They have thousands of No-CD fixes.

Any other questions?

UPDATE1: Hmm… What are the file types?

Yes, will replace the orginal "Play" exe file with one that will trick the software into thinking it is reading from a CD in the drive.

UPDATE2: Im an idiot. The file you extracted was in fact the game. didnt think of it until now. Get a mounting program and mount the file you tried to extract. Should work. Then get a no CD fix.

Let me knwo how it goes.

What are your thoughts on this?

OBAMA’S WEAKNESS ISSUE

By DICK MORRIS

Published on TheHill.com on June 23, 2009

If only President Obama were a third as tough on Iran and North Korea as he is on Republicans, he’d be making progress in containing the dire threats to our national security these rogue nations represent. As it is, the president is letting the perception of weakness cloud his image. Once that particular miasma enshrouds a presidency, it is hard to dissipate.

If foreign policy issues actually involve war and the commitment of troops, they can be politically potent. But otherwise, the impact of international affairs on presidential image is largely metaphoric. Since foreign policy is the only area in which the president can govern virtually alone, it provides a window on his personality and use of power that domestic policy cannot.

When President Clinton, for example, dithered as Bosnia burned, he acquired a reputation for weakness that dragged down his ratings. It was only after he moved decisively to bomb and then disarm the Serbs that he shed that image. It took President George H.W. Bush’s invasion of Iraq to set to rest concerns that he was a "wimp." Jimmy Carter never recovered from the lasting damage to his reputation that his inability to stand up to Iran during the hostage crisis precipitated.

So now, as North Korea defies international sanctions and sends arms to Myanmar and Iran slaughters its citizens in the streets, President Obama looks helpless and hapless. He comes across as not having a clue how to handle the crises.

And as North Korea prepares to launch a missile on a Hail Mary pass aimed at Hawaii, the Democrats slash 19 missile interceptors from the Defense Department budget.

The transparent appeasement of Iran’s government — and its obvious lack of reciprocation — makes Obama look ridiculous. Long after the mullahs have suppressed what limited democracy they once allowed, Obama’s image problems will persist.

While Americans generally applaud Obama’s outreach to the Muslims of the world and think highly of his Cairo speech, they are very dissatisfied with his inadequate efforts to stop Iran from developing — and North Korea from using — nuclear weapons. Clearly, his policies toward these two nations are a weak spot in his reputation.

His failure to stand up to either aggressor is of a piece with his virtual surrender in the war on terror. Documented in our new book, Catastrophe, we show how he has disarmed the United States and simply elected to stop battling terrorists, freeing them from Guantánamo as he empowers them with every manner of constitutional protection.

Obviously, the Iranian democracy demonstrators will not fare any better than their Chinese brethren did in Tiananmen Square. But the damage their brutal suppression will do to the Iranian government is going to be huge. The ayatollahs of Tehran have always sold themselves to the world’s Islamic faithful as the ultimate theocracy, marrying traditional Muslim values with the needs of modern governance. But now, in the wake of the bloodshed, they are revealed as nothing more than military dictators. All the romance is gone, just as it faded in wake of the tanks in Budapest and Prague. All that remains is power.

China, of course, fared better after Tiananmen because of its economic miracle. But Iran has no such future on its horizon. The loss of prestige in the Arab world and the end of the pretense of government with popular support will cost Iran dearly.

In the meantime, Obama’s pathetic performance vis-à-vis Iran and North Korea cannot but send a message to all of America’s enemies that the president of the United States does not believe in using power — that he is a wimp and they can get away with whatever they want. A dangerous reputation indeed.

An obvious mistake in viewpoints. The messiah is just getting his dander up and if NK and Iran do not toe the line soon he we’ll destroy them with lightning bolts from is eyes and fireballs from his arse!

Did I actually write that. Truth of the matter is America knew he was a wimp from the get go and elected him anyway!
