Limerick,Avril Webster “Off We Go “Book Launch, O’Mahony’s, Limerick

Avril Webster Off We Go
Little did Limerick based Avril Webster know when she created books at her kitchen table to help her disabled son Stephen cope with everyday activities, that they would lead to a publishing contract for a series of six books .in just over a year from those homemade versions, her first series is now published, with another six to follow in 2008.

Seeing the benefit Stephen was getting from the homemade books,Avril set about adapting them to be suitable for Stephen’s classmates .With the help of illustrator David Ryley ,whose close family friend Christia attends St.Vincent’s Special School ,Lisnagry with Avril’s son Stephen,Avril created the Going Swimming book. Things took off from there.
The Off We Go! Storybooks explain ‘what comes next ‘ on an everyday outing ,like going to the Dentist etc(simple everyday issues we take for granted but can be very stressful for someone who has child with a disability, society has improved but not to a degree of total acceptability as of yet) and therefore reassure the child and encourage cooperation in each situation .By reading the book together at home and preparing a child for a new task or event ,they can manage the stages more easily ,ultimately reducing stress for themselves and those around them.

Each book contains colourful illustrations and is 12 pages long, a length recommended by Speech and Language therapists. The simple text uses basic vocabulary which can be easily understood and with the pictures it will help give structure and routine to children of different ages and abilities.

Avril Webster lives in Limerick, Ireland, she and her husband Robert (an ardent Liverpool fan), have three children, their eldest son Stephen has a moderate to severe intellectual disability.Avril has been a full time — carer for Stephen since 1998, 24 x 7, I call it a fact that our current government need to recognise more because this nation has so many carers. Avril and her family have strived to give their son Stephen the best in life; they have already made a good start today for him and for so many others out there with a disability. We wish them well in the future, it’s a difficult road.

Apple iPad critics reviews on star news

March 15, 2010 - 6:21 am 2 Comments

The apple ipad historical launch by steve jobs has captivated the tech savvy across the globe. The geeky and sleek look,

virtual key board,9.9 Inch with 720 gm, 16-64GB is a feature between laptop and mobile.the cost is between 500- 1000 US$, can work on 3G spetrum as well as has the capacity of 4G as well.

Digital book having reading software , with an alliance by amazon.com is a great advantage for the avid readers who wants to study the book online

the Apple ipad has you tube feature, google earth, mails, browsing, photography, etc.
Reviewers were mixed and were ambivalent on whether the iPad will be a smash hit like the iPod, which controls over 70 percent of the market for MP3 players, or the iPhone, which completely transformed the smartphone arena.

Though the apple has targetd to sell 30- 40 Million apple ipad in this year alone. Its going to get launch in march in USA and in India i will be rolled probably in mid june.

From IT security point of view it is risk free and but also thats because, they are being used less compartively to MS.Popular complaints included the lack of a camera, multi-tasking capabilities, a USB port, and support for videos made with Adobe Flash software.

Very soon,Microsoft is comin up with the same line of product.

Troubadour: Mick Ronson + Morgan Fisher art/book/DVD event

March 15, 2010 - 6:21 am 1 Comment

The Troubadour Gallery, London, was where the Mick Ronson Book/DVD launch party was held simultaneously with Morgan Fishers BACKTRACKS & ABSTRACTS photo show on October 3, 2009 during the Mott the Hoople reunion. Mottober, Rocktober, fans came up with various names for this month…

People from all over the world came to see Mick’s stage clothes, the new book and DVD on Micks life, as well as Morgan’s photos (a combination of candid Mott photos and his new abstract Light Paintings). The atmosphere was warm and friendly, due in no small part to the organisers: Weird & Gilly, Suzi Ronson and Spontanuity. Among the happy party-goers you can see Micks mum, sister, brother and daughter (wife Suzi must have popped out); Weird & Gilly (Weirds ankle was broken in three places on his first fun-filled night out in London), Leee Black Childers, John Fiddler, Sven Gusevik, and Morgan, who shot this. Check out the last looong shot starting in the Old Brompton Road and ending in the gallery.

Thank You.

Austin Carty was a cast member on Survivor: Panama Exile Island in 2006, but he isnt content or comfortable being known solely as that guy who appeared on the reality TV show, ate bugs, and built barely functional lean-tos. What he is content and comfortable with, hes discovered, is his faith and his belief in something bigger than himself. And its this faith and this belief thats led him to endure greater trials than a couple of months of outdoor living, or even surviving a monsoon dressed in a T-shirt. Today, Carty travels across the world speaking to youth about being a Christian in a world that requires a unique set of survival skills none of which, luckily, involve using a flint. Hes always wanted to write, though, and that desire has led, most recently, to this collection of candid essays. In them, Carty explores his own experiences navigating religious fervor, spiritual confusion, academic dishonesty, superficial and genuine friendships, temporary employment and vocational purpose, and romantic entanglements. His frank disclosure, coupled with his gentle, self-deprecating humor, is disarming and endearing, and perhaps most importantly accessible and relatable. Whether his readers identify as religious or secular, most will connect with Cartys writing, and find his self-awareness and introspection both refreshing and inspiring.
