Confessions of a Local Celebrity: a Tale of Rags to No Rags, by Mike Soret

1995 was a magical year. Wedged between a nasty recession and a dot-com bubble, North America briefly had discretionary income to burn. In music, swing became the greatest recipient of this windfall. It had the right elements in place: it was anachronistic, it was clean-cut, it was non-threatening. Many forgettable acts came, got paid, and faded under the banner of this gimmick. The Molestics were one of those acts, and though they weren’t the worst (or best, tightest, or cleanest) of the pack, they certainly are the subject of this imbibing memoir. 190 pages, embossed covers, 6.5″ square.

ALAN KAVANAGH

Alan Kavanagh is a singer/songwriter from Ashbourne Co.Meath. He first hit the music scene last September when he appeared on RTE’s You’re a Star where he reached the last five in the country and since has gone from strength to strength. His first single “Sorry Sincerely” was recorded in Jealoustown Studio and Alan sold out the 250 seat Ratoath Venue with the launch of his cd. Since the show Alan has been gigging all around the country and has had the privilege of touring with winner of best female at the Meteors Luan Parle and even playing with Christy Dignam. Christy described him as a fantastic musician and Alan’s song writing skills didn’t go unnoticed by Luan as she described him as a “a fine song writer”. He even received great reviews from Tomas Black, Joe Duffy, Linda Martin and Brendan O’Connor but most notable are the comments from Louis Walsh who believes Alan has ‘great potential for the music business’. Alan plays guitar, piano and bass and is a music student in Dundalk IT.
